Redmen ready to rock with Lakers in MSL semifinal

BROOKLIN — The series everybody saw coming last week is now officially on tap as the Brooklin Redmen and Peterborough Lakers get set to do battle in the Major Series Lacrosse semifinals.

The Redmen booked their spot by way of a first-round bye after finishing first in the East Division and entire league, while the Lakers were left to face the Ajax Rock in a best-of-five quarter-final series, which they completed in the expected fashion by finishing off a three-game sweep Tuesday night.

That now leaves the Redmen and Lakers in line to play a best-of-seven to advance to the MSL final.

By virtue of their first-place finish, the Redmen have home floor advantage, thus the series will get underway Sunday night at Iroquois Park Sports Centre with an 8 p.m. faceoff.

In three out of four regular season games between the two clubs, the Redmen came out on top, winning by scores of 14-12, 13-11 and 10-9, while the Lakers won their lone game of the season series 11-9.

“We played them square and the players they had in their lineup the nights we played them was pretty much their team,” Redmen coach and general manager Wayne Colley says in looking back against the Lakers.

However, at this time of year, regular season results often mean little, so with that in mind the Redmen players and staff are doing their best to look ahead to what they need to do in order to get out ahead in this series.

It will all start in goal with Aaron Bold, who has been stellar for the Redmen this season and will need to continue to be a pillar between the pipes. In front of him the defence will have its hands full, no doubt, trying to contain the likes of John Grant Jr., John Tavares, Shawn Evans and a host of other Lakers’ stars.
